Manny Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley News

Three more weeks to go before the much anticipated, highly promoted fight between pound-for-pound king and 8 Division world champion Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs) of the Philippines and former 3 time world division champion Sugar Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) of the United States, both camps are now in heavy training, trying to perfect the strategies they have prepared that they think will give them the best chance of coming out victorious in this WBO welterweight title showdown. The Pacquiao vs Mosley bout takes place on May 7 at the historic MGM Grand Hotel and Casino of Las Vegas, Nevada. Boxing gurus will definitely see this as a major gap in Mosley armor, noting the fact that Pacquiao isn’t even your typical southpaw. Not having enough experience fighting against a lefty stance is one thing, but having to face someone with a stance as unconventional and as unusual as Pacquiaos is another. On the backside, this could very well cause Pacquiao’s camp to overlook the likelihood of one of Mosleys most powerful weapons to cause more damage. There is, however, one other punch that could very well pose a more potent threat to Pacquiao becoming careless or not – the left hook to the body. Mosley usually connects this vaunted punch if his opponent is standing in front of him. Mayweather almost paid dearly for that. However, with Pacquiao’s constant movement, there’s no way that the Pacquiao is going to stay in front of Mosley and become a target for the latter’s overhand rights. Mosley’s overhand right can definitely surprise Pacquiao that is if Pacquiao becomes careless. It might also help his cause that Pacquiao is a southpaw, which correspondingly means that the target will be within striking distance most of the time. This is not to say that Shane is going to drop Manny with that vicious left hook. Team Pacquiao still needs to watch out for it. That left hook is Mosley’s bet weapon to eke out an upset. Therefore, it is but essential for Team Pacquiao to prepare for that and not leave everything to chance. Pacquiao vs Mosley is promoted by Top Rank in association with MP Promotions,Sugar Shane Mosley Promotions, Tecate and MGM Grand. Manny Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley News

Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley have agreed to use yellow gloves in their showdown for the World Boxing Organization welterweight crown on Saturday here to promote unity against poverty.

"I will be wearing yellow gloves into the ring on Saturday–as a symbol of unity in the fight against poverty," Pacquiao said in a packed press conference at the MGM Grand on Wednesday as he stressed there are fights bigger than those taking place in the ring.

"All my life I’ve had to fight. As a child, I had to fight just to eat," Pacquiao said. "The biggest fight in my life is not in boxing. The biggest fight in my life is how to end poverty in my country."

After making this statement, Pacquiao, who looked splendid in his suit, walked over to the edge of the stage in the showroom at the MGM, leaned over and shook hands with Mosley’s father, Jack, and several other friends and family members.

Mosley, not to be outdone, was all praises for his opponent, saying: "Pacquiao is a short welterweight, but he’s not a small welterweight. He’s very powerful. This is like a Mike Tyson fight–we’re heavyweights out there. I’m looking to go out there, take charge and beat Manny Pacquiao".

"I can muster all that energy that I had against Margarito. This type of fight reminds me of when I was able to do a lot of damage in the lightweight division. It’s kind of like going back in time," added Mosley, a former three-division chap.

Pacquiao, an eight-division champion, is the odds-on favorite at 8-1. But Mosley was unfazed.

"I don’t know, that’s what the odds makers are saying. That’s fine with me. The main goal is to get the win and then we can talk about being an underdog. I don’t pay attention to that–I’ve been an underdog in a lot of my fights."

The fight marks Pacquiao’s 10th year of campaigning in the United States, which started when he stopped Lehlohonolo Ledwaba of South Africa in six rounds to emerge as world super-bantamweight champion. That 12-round bout served as one of the undercards of the Oscar De La Hoya-Javier Castillejo bout at the same arena where Pacquiao and Mosley will dispute the Filipino’s 147-pound crown.

Pacquiao’s demolition of Ledwaba opened the door for the Filipino’s successful campaign here, including a fight against De La Hoya who was eventually forced into retirement after being humbled in eight rounds. Pacquiao and Mosley vowed to prevail during the press conference, where they spoke nothing but admiration and respect for each other. Pacquiao vs Mosley Live Stream.

Manny Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley News

Manny Pacquiao has been installed as an odds-on favorite for his WBO welterweight title defense against Shane Mosley but the Filipino has taken great pains not to underestimate his American challenger.

While Pacquiao is already acknowledged as one of the best offensive fighters of all time, he said on Wednesday he had not prepared for a fight in such intense fashion since he took on 10-time world champion Oscar De La Hoya three years ago.

"I have trained hard for this fight," Pacquiao, who has a career record of 52-3-2 with 38 knockouts, told a packed news conference at the MGM Grand’s Hollywood Theater. "I am in 100 percent condition. You know why?"

"I never underestimate Mosley. Mosley is a good fighter. Do you think he’s old? He’s not old. He moves like a 32-year-old, a 31-year-old. His hand speed and foot speed is still strong."

Mosley, a four-time world champion in three weight divisions, is a boxing veteran at 39 and many critics believe he is a shadow of the man who twice beat De La Hoya.

Yet it has often been said that styles make fights and Pacquiao knows full well that his American opponent, an agile and highly intelligent boxer, loves to attack.

"Mosley is not that easy (an) opponent," the 32-year-old Filipino, who was smartly dressed in a black suit and white dress shirt, said of their showdown on Saturday.

"He is a good fighter. He is strong, he throws a lot of punches and he moves fast. He is the kind of fighter you can’t under-estimate."

Last week, Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach said his fighter had never prepared better for a bout, and he emphasized the point during Wednesday’s news conference.

"We know we’re in a tough fight," the bespectacled Roach said. "We respect Shane and his camp. They have a great team."

"But we are 100 percent ready. Everybody has worked really hard at this training camp. I think it’s the best training camp we’ve ever had and Manny is in the best shape ever."

"We need to peak for this fight because Shane’s one of the most crafty guys out there. He’s intelligent and experienced and you can’t replace experience, that’s for sure."

Mosley, who has not competed in the ring since his draw with Sergio Mora in September, predicted an all-action contest at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday.

"This is going to be a terrific fight, a great fight," said Mosley, who is 46-6-1 with 39 KOs. "We’re both warriors, we both love to fight and we’re both winners."

"And when you get two winners in there, you know it’s going to be a heck of a fight. So I’m excited. I’m ready. It’s going to be a block-buster ... and I’m happy to be a part of this."

Pacquiao, like Mosley, is no lover of the trash talking that so often dominates the buildup to professional fights and he had a special message for those attending Wednesday’s news conference. Pacquiao vs Mosley Live Stream.
